We updated a 1920s classic California bungalow, preserving original details such as ceilings, windows, and beams, while modernizing the home at every turn from updating electrical and heating to opening up the kitchen and master bath. Restructuring doorways and reshaping the main hallway created better flow on the main level. A new stairway leads to unused attic space in the roofline that we captured to give the family a much-needed loft and play space. Repeating original lines and arches in the remodel made for a cohesive design that helped secure this home as a “Structure of Merit” in the city of Santa Barbara.
